Obituary for Bernie Joe Barnes


Bernie J. Barnes, 89, of Rising Star passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Brownwood.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Rising Star Church of Christ, Rising Star, Texas. Burial will follow at the Rising Star Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Monday, January 22 from 5 to 7 PM at the Rising Star Church of Christ.

Bernie was born on April 15, 1928 to the late Joe Barnes and May Hallfield Barnes in Okra, TX. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Bernie married Betty Sue Inglet on September 4, 1954 in Brownwood. He worked as a custom harvester for over 50 years. His number one priority was caring for his family. Bernie enjoyed hunting and cars and loved to collect guns, watches and clocks. His true love was his family and he will be dearly missed.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Sue Barnes; a daughter, Tammy Poteet; a son, Brad Barnes; 2 grandchildren, Michael Tatum and Chelcee Poteet; 3 great grandchildren, Lola Pilson, Madalyn Pilson, Camryn Pilson; sister in-law, Pat Waddle; brother in-laws, Mac Inglet and Bo Inglet; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernie was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roy Barnes and Perry Barnes.
