Obituary for Charlou Cowan (Richardson)

Charlou Cowan, 68, of Cross Plains, Texas left her earthly home surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren and entered the presence of her glorious Savior on August 14, 2020.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 16, at 2:00 PM at Cross Plains Memorial Park in Cross Plains, Texas with Matt McGowen officiating. The family will have visitation on Saturday, August 15 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home.

Charlou was born on April 15, 1952 in Big Lake, Texas to the late Byron and Louise Richardson. She married her high school sweetheart, Leslie Cowan III on June 27, 1970 in Cross Plains, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Charlou loved life. She saw the best in everyone, and was rarely seen without a smile on her face. She touched so many lives during her walk on Earth. Through her many years as a Sunday school teacher and 27 years as Cross Plains Elementary secretary, she was able to bless the lives of so many children as well as be blessed by them. She loved each and every one of them.

Charlou was preceded in death by her parents and a very special Uncle and Aunt, Mike and Minnie Cunningham.

Charlou is survived by her loving husband of 50 years; daughter, Shauna Cowan; son, Michael Cowan and wife, April; four grandchildren, Cheyenne Cowan and fiancé, Nathan Hodnichak, Hannah Cowan, Isaiah Cowan and Samuel Cowan as well as her four-legged loyal companion of 14 years, Sissy; sisters, Byrene Ferguson, Lurene McNutt, Sharene and husband, Avi Deskmukh; and many nieces and nephews.

Although we will miss her dearly, the family asks that you spend this time reflecting on the wonderful memories that Charlou blessed so many with. She loved her Jesus so much! Words cannot describe the peace and joy we feel knowing she has won the victory!

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cross Plains Senior Citizens Center P.O. Box 144 Cross Plains, Texas 76443 or the Cross Plains Community Cancer Fund P.O. Box 183 Cross Plains, Texas 76443.
