Doris Hodnett-Duke, 89, of Weatherford Texas formerly of Cross Plains, passed away January 20, 2022 of natural causes.
Doris had lived in Weatherford for the past two years having moved there to be with family. Prior to this she had lived in Cross Plains area for 50 plus years. Doris moved to the Cross Plains – Rising Star area from Coahoma, Texas where she lived for 24 years. She was active in the church having served as WMU chairperson, GA sponsor, RA sponsor and taught Sunday school from pre-school thru the high school years at First Baptist Church, Coahoma, Texas. At the time of her death, she was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church.
Doris was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Donald Duke; her parents, Ira and Eunice Nix- Hodnett; two brothers and one sister; son-in-law, Teddy Merrick.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Donna Merrick, Teresa Enfield; son, Michael Duke;
four grandchildren, Krystal Barrett (Tyson), Jennie Walker (JohnT), Kaci Edwards (Bubba) and Rusty Duke; five great grandchildren, Bryland and Dyland Barrett, Carson Presti, Lanie and Jensen Walker; special nephew, Robert (Bob) Hodnett; special cousins, Janice Faries, and Dickie and Faye Tucker; special friends and neighbors, Jim and Fran Chesshir, Charles and Cathy Chesshir, and plus a host of friends and relatives. Doris will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be Thursday, January 27 at 2:00 PM at the Liberty Cemetery in Eastland County, Texas with Charles Chesshir officiating.
