Obituary for Riley Leon "Rusty" Reed

Riley Leon “Rusty” Reed, 68, of Cross Plains, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Hendricks Medical Center Brownwood in Brownwood, Texas.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, February 21 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains with Kenneth Rieter officiating and Ronnie White assisting. The family will have a time of visitation from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday, February 20 at Higginbotham Funeral Home.

Due to restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that you please wear mask and follow social distancing. The family appreciates your attendance but wants everyone to be safe during this time.

Rusty was born February 1, 1953 in Fort Stockton, Texas to the late Riley Cleveland Reed and Martha Mae (Smelley) Reed. Rusty married Debbie Tyler on October 13, 1973 at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Texas. Rusty was owner and operator of Reed Construction in Cross Plains. He was very involved with his community. Rusty was very involved with his family, enjoy vacation with grandchildren and watching all their sporting and rodeo events.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Cleveland Reed and Martha Mae (Smelley) Reed; sister, Barbara Bigham.

Rusty is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Debbie Reed of Cross Plains; sons, Matt Reed and wife, Krisi of Cross Plains; Cody Reed and wife, Amy of Cross Plains; 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Ryder, Rylen, Kutter, Kooper, Kade and Carbyn all of Cross Plains; brother, Bill Reed and wife, Darlene of Putnam; 3 sisters, Nancy Bishop and husband, Wayne of Lake Brownwood; Dot Loudermilk and husband, Chuck of Brownwood; Kay Beck of Brownwood; brother-in-law, Jerry Tyler and wife, Evelyn of Brownwood; 2 sister-in-laws, Joyce Jones of Abilene; Lynda Edington of Burkett.

Pallbearers: Randy Strickland, Ed Goynes, Greg Turner, Monty Richards, Richard Wilson, Randy Montgomery, Kyle Forster, Robert Anderson, Benny Free.
