Obituary for Royce Alvin Atchley

Royce Alvin Atchley, 65, of Rising Star, Texas passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 15 at 11:00 AM at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Cross Plains, Texas with Max Evans officiating.

Royce was born December 4, 1955 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Houston Atchley and Lorene Roth-Atchley. Royce married Laura Gann on July 1, 1994 in Iowa Park, Texas.

Royce’s favorite bible verse was Psalm 103:1-5. Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Royce’s spiritual walk with the Lord was so beautiful. He led many to the Lord not just by telling them about Jesus, but through his actions and how he lived his life. It was important to him to be an example of God’s love.
His dreams came true when he and Laura moved to the farm in Rising Star and built their legacy for their children and grandchildren. He was always involved in his children and grandchildren’s activities, going to countless football, softball, volleyball, basketball and baseball games, rodeos, and father-daughter dances.
Royce was an ironworker, oil field electrician, truck driver, welder and a custom hay baler.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents, Houston Atchley and Lorene Roth-Atchley; sister Elaine.
Royce is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Laura Atchley of Rising Star; daughters, Amber Taft of Longview; Hannah Anderson of Longview; Katie Clark and her husband, Dean of Abilene; son, Robert Ward and his wife, Viridiana of San Diego, California and step son Bobby Slack of Houston; 11 grandchildren, Hunter, Carrie, David, Carter, Preston, Mylie, Aiden, Morgan, Thomas, Declan, and Stefano and 1 great grandchild, Dalton; brother, Donnie Atchley and his wife, Penny of Iowa Park, Texas.

An Additional service will be held at Faith Baptist Church 411 S. Wall St. Iowa Park, Texas on April 24th at 1:00pm.

A special thanks to the Kindred Hospice staff and especially to his nurse Shannon Erwin for your kindness and friendship that you shared with our Papa. We will forever be grateful for you.
