Aubrey Childers

Aubrey B. “Moose” Childers, 74, of Abilene, died Monday, February 6, 2017, at Abilene Regional Hospital.

Born July 1, 1942 in Cottonwood, he was the son of the late Custer Blanton and Lillie Wilcoxen Childers. After schooling, he was called into the Army, and spent 12 months in Viet Nam. He was an avid hunter, loved the outside and loved to work on his farm and taking care of his cows. He worked for Lyle and Lyle Construction building conservation dams and for Norris and Norris Construction in Tye.

He was married to Virginia Belle Lane on August 25, 1975 in Abilene. Survivors include his wife Virginia; three brothers, Harry Childers of Rising Star, R. D. Childers and wife Sharon of Cisco, and Arnold Childers and wife Nancy of Brownwood; several nieces and nephews; and two little companion dachshunds, Fany and Sally..

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Higginbotham Funeral Home 309 N. E. 4th Street in Cross Plains. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery.
