Carter was born September 12, 1938 in Kermit, Texas to the late James Matthew Jones and Effie Pearl Coffey-Jones. Carter married Cynthia Hutton on May 26, 1956 in Old Mexico, who preceded him on December 2, 2014.
Carter was preceded by his parents, James Matthew Jones and Effie Pearl Coffey-Jones; wife, Cynthia Hutton-Jones; 5 brothers and sisters.
Carter is survived by his sons, Nathan Jones Jr. of Dublin and James Jones of Rogers, Arkansas; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
