Cole, Donald Davis, Jr., born August 2, 1937, in New Orleans to Donald Davis Cole, Sr. and Helen Wigginton Cole, died April 30, 2016, at age 78. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judith Gragg Cole of Dallas; children Trey Cole and wife Teresa of Austin, TX; Wil Cole and wife Jen of The Woodlands, TX; daughter Dede Cole McFarland and husband Jared of Dallas; brother Harvey Cole and wife Mary Ann of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Ashton and Haley Cole; Lauren, Jesse and Ben Cole, Eli McFarland, and many nieces and nephews. Don grew up in Bay St. Louis, MS, with a love of the coast and the outdoors. He earned a B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and did post graduate studies in math at Louisiana State University. He worked for IBM at the Manned Space Craft Center in Clear Lake City supporting the space program before he moved to Dallas to work for Chilton Computer Company and served the remainder of his career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Don served in the U.S. Navy, was stationed in Maine and on the USS Lake Champlain, which retrieved Alan Shepard from his first space flight. He was a longtime member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. He served his church, his friends and his neighbors with a generosity of spirit and good will. He was well known in his neighborhood among all ages, and gave freely of his time and expertise. His passion was the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He found great joy in sharing the simplicities of life with all of his grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 6, in the chapel.
