Gloria Strahan

September 4, 1937 — October 9, 2021

On Saturday October 9, 2021 Gloria Ann Strahan, received her golden angel wings. She finally got her wish to go home to Cottonwood, Texas to her final resting place free from pain and suffering. She passed easily in her sleep at the age of 84. She had a number of health issues which contributed to her passing. She was a resident at Pleasant Manor Healthcare & Rehabilitation under the care of Bristol Hospice both of Waxahachie.

Gloria was born September 4, 1937 in Cottonwood, Callahan County, Texas to E. D. ‘Bud’ Strahan & Mauriene Nordyke Strahan. She was their only daughter. She was a beloved, devoted daughter and mother. Gloria always loved children and babysat for a couple of churches and numerous families in her community. She was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed being a part-time housekeeper with her mother for several years around her hometown. She married young and had 1 daughter who she loved dearly.

She attended the school in Cottonwood and finished her education in Cross Plains. She valued family and chose being a wife and mother as her passion. She decided against college and began raising her family. She was a Christian and attended the Church of Christ. She had a number of interests including music where she enjoyed attending the Cottonwood Musical as well as concerts in the surrounding cities. She loved the classic country music artists and Elvis. Gloria was an avid crafter making sequined hats, jewelry, ashtrays, and embroidered items for herself, family and close friends. She enjoyed writing letters and corresponding with pen pals across the United States. She was an amateur photo buff and enjoyed taking photos of family and friends. She never missed a photo opportunity to capture the fun and memories of any occasion. She also enjoyed reading, puzzles, and many television programs and movies.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents Bud and Mauriene; grandson-in-law, Thomas Nelson; numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives as well as close family friends.

She is survived by her daughter, LeeAnn Caldwell and husband, Gary Sr. of Greenville, Texas; grandson, Gary Caldwell, Jr. and his wife, Denise of Farmersville, Texas; granddaughter, Alice Nelson and fiancé, Rodney Siders of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 2 great grandsons; 3 great granddaughters; 1 great granddaughter-in-law and 1 great-great grandson; numerous cousins; many friends whom she loved as her own including Archer, Besselaar, Nickerson, Hinkle, and McCoy families. As well as a number friends, she called her sisters and brothers by heart.

A graveside memorial service will be held Monday October 25, 2021 at 2 p. m. at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Cottonwood, Texas. Service arranged by Higginbotham Funeral Home Cross Plains, Texas.
