James Wayne Nichols, age 77 of Cross Plains, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas after a lengthy illness.
James was born on September 23, 1945 in Coleman, Texas to the late Tolbert Nichols and Dorris Atwood-Nichols. James married Lovey Pearl Bishop on January 24, 1966 in Rising Star, Texas. He served in the United States Army and is a Vietnam Veteran. James lived in Cross Plains all his life (77 Years) as well as served on the city council board as councilman several years. James was also an accomplished local author of several books.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Tolbert and Dorris Nichols; sister, Sheila Brooks; brother, Larry Nichols.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lovey Nichols of Cross Plains, Texas; son, Darby Nichols and his wife, Shannon of Cross Plains, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Clayton Reynolds of Cross Plains, Texas, Tawni Gary of Ava, Missouri; Stephen Reynolds of Abilene, Texas; Tyler Nichols of Cross Plains, Texas; Reagan Nichols of Cross Plains, Texas; 12 great grandchildren; 2 nieces & 2 nephews and many extended family.
