LaVerna Hadderton Rogers, 93, a resident of Eastland, TX, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2024 at Ranger Care Center. LaVerna was born on November 12, 1930 in Roby, TX. She was the second of three girls born to Jack and Lucy Hadderton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Rogers; parents; 2 sisters, LaNeel Pierce and Jackie Pickett. She is survived by her only son, Fielding (Bozo) Rogers and wife, Karla; granddaughters, Brittany Rogers; Reba Lambert and husband, Sierra; one great grandson, Quirt Rogers; several nieces and nephews; her longtime caretaker, companion, and special friend, Jan Thomas, who made the last few years of her life the best anyone could ask for. All the above survivors knew and loved her as “Mannie”, a name she was given almost 70 years ago when one of her nieces couldn’t say LaVerna as a little tyke.
LaVerna was born during the great depression and grew up in a number of places around Texas, wherever her dad could find work. After graduating high school, she found her way to northeastern New Mexico and settled in the Las Vegas, New Mexico area, where she spent the next 50 years. She married Ernie Rogers in Santa Rosa, NM on February 16, 1954, a marriage that lasted 61 years, until Erinie’s death in 2015. Ernie was a great cowboy, and they worked on a number of ranches around Las Vegas for many years. LaVerna was first and foremost a wife and mother, she was a great cook, feeding many a cowboy crew, and a good seamstress, but like so many wives she also had a job “in town”. She was a bookkeeper extraordinaire. She worked at the Ford Dealership for a number of years, and later was the bookkeeper for Hays Plumbing, also for a number of years. She not only kept their books and office in order, but she kept the crew in order too.
Mannie was a strong woman. She was kind and loving, but I would be leaving an elephant in the room if I did not say she was a little hardheaded, and quick tempered. You DID NOT want to be on her bad side. She loved her family and loved the Lord. She enjoyed attending church on Sunday until the last few years, when it became too difficult for her to get there. She also enjoyed working in the yard and keeping it looking nice and neat. She will be missed by all.
