Mary Katherine Gardner was born on September 28, 1935 and passed from this life in her home at age 81 on July 1, 2017.
Funeral service for Mary will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery, Pioneer, TX. Visitation with family will be from 8 to 10 AM prior to the service at the funeral home..
Mary was born on September 28, 1935 to the late Cecil Harden Oden and Audine Estell Johnson in Rising Star, TX. She married Eldon Gwen Gardner on August 8, 1953 in Knox County, TX. They were married 38 years before his passing on November 1, 1991. She was an excellent homemaker and cared for her husband, family and anyone else who needed her. Mary was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church. Mary also known as Mom, Nanny or Kat was a quilter and shared her talents with the community. In their later years both Nanny and papa were blessed to have cared for by her granddaughter Jennifer Fulcher.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Faye Gardner Clegg & husband John from Colorado City; 2 sons, Sammy Gardner & wife Lisa from Rising Star, Joe Wesley Gardner from Rising Star; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Fulcher, Little John Clegg, Sammy Gene Gardner, Justin Mack Gardner and wife Jennifer; 4 great-grandchildren, Brandon Lee Fulcher, Ashley Fulcher Cross, Jayden D. Clegg, Tyson Wade Gardner; 1 great-great-grandchild, Bryleigh Ann Cross; 1 brother, Jimmy Oden & wife Kathy from Midland; 4 sisters, Bobbie J Gardner & husband Wayne from Kingsland, Joyce Berten from Rising Star, Patricia Ramsey from Midland, Carol Crowder & husband Joe from North Richland Height.
Mary Katherine was also preceded in death by her son, Billy Mack Gardner, and brother “Sonny” Cecil Lee Oden Jr.
