Our beloved Dad, Granddad, Great granddad, brother, uncle, cousin, & friend Randall L. “Randy” Lewis, Sr. passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 12 days. He was born to L.L. “Shorty” and Theresa Lewis in Brownwood, Texas on October 10, 1945.
Randy was raised on the family farm at Rising Star and graduated from Rising Star High School in 1964. He worked for a brief time in the oil field following graduation then returned to the family dairy and peanut farm. In 1982 he left the farm to pursue a career in greyhound racing. Randy returned to Rising Star and the farm in 1998 and resided there until his death. He worked with others in the community to supplement his income with his most recent employment being with 3D Ag in Rising Star.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister in law Kermit and Frances Lewis, brother in law Jerry Prosser, niece Shelly Lewis and nephews Jason Prosser and Ronald D. “Rusty” Bond, Jr. He is survived by his daughter Davonna “Dee Dee” and Mike Vicknair of Rising Star, son Randall L. “Bubba” Lewis, Jr. of Rising Star, son Matthew Mattison of Sims, Texas, grandson Randall L. Lewis, III and Robyn of Santa Fe, Texas, grandson Timothy Mattison of Alaska, great granddaughters Bailey, Rachel and Raeann of Santa Fe, He is also survived by sisters Kay Prosser of Arlington and Sharon and Ronald Bond of Cross Plains, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends David and Ale Peters of Rising Star and a host of other friends.
Randy will be remembered by all who knew him for his generosity and love of family, friends, dominos, game chickens and Mexico City Cafe. His niece, Susan McGinn, had the perfect description of Randy: He was a joy to be around. Anytime you saw him, he seemed genuinely happy to see you and always had a smile and hug for you.
