Ronnie Neil Leonard, age 74, died, Saturday, October 15th, 2016 Austin, TX.
Ronnie is survived by his Son Clint, Daughter-in-law Tracy and Brother George; Grandchildren Cecilia, Ashley Mae, Zach and Ashley B. He was preceded in death by brothers Cecil, Damon, Don, Nonnie Jr. (Punkin), Gayle, and parents Nonnie and Sally Mae.
Ronnie was born October 6, 1942, and raised in Sipe Springs, TX, the seventh of seven sons. Growing up, he loved riding horses and playing shoot-em-up with his nieces and nephews. He took up boxing in High School, winning the Texas State Golden Gloves Championship and later was crowned the Welterweight Champ at Ft Hood after being drafted into the Army at age 21he served his country in Vietnam, where he was embedded with the ROK Marines. He served his country with bravery and honor was awarded a Purple Heart.
He did everything from Cowboying from Texas all the way to Wyoming, to being a bar tender, a bar manager, as well as being a Pipe Fitter and Welder. He was an avid golfer and played 3-4 times a week. Rest in peace Dad, you have and will always be my father, my friend, and my hero.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Rising Star TX at 11AM. Burial will follo at Sipe Sprins Cemetery. Dad, I'm taking you home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains, Texas.
Family request anyone who would like to wear a cowboy hat at the gravesite may do so.
