Tommie Don Harris, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 14th in Stephenville, TX. Don was born on November 2,1943 to Tommie Jay and Lora Faye (Odom) Harris. Don graduated from Cross Plains HS in 1962 and then earned a degree in Animal Science from Texas Tech University. He was a proud Red Raider.
Don married Virginia McIntosh of Baird on May 19, 1962. Don and Virginia had three children Terrel (1965), Troy (1968), & Tonya (1972). They resided on the family farm in Rowden.
Years later Don married Pam Davis of Eula and added children Misti & Paul. Don worked as an Oilfield Superintendent and along with Pam had a successful show lamb business, Southpaw Sheep Farm. Don served multiple terms as President of Cross Plains ISD School Board as well as leadership roles at the Callahan County Livestock Assn. and other civic boards.
PaDon was immensely proud of his Grandchildren. He enjoyed attending sporting events, recitals, and livestock shows whenever possible and never missed a graduation.
Don lived in Abilene for several years and worked in Real Estate. He was married to Marsha Severson at this time. He later retired and moved back to Rowden. His favorite retirement activities were daily “errands” to Abilene / Cross Plains and beyond and attending Second Chance Cowboy Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Terry, Jimmy & Nicky Harris. His son Terrel Harris, and Stepson Paul Davis. He is survived by son Troy Harris (Sharon) of Stephenville, daughters Tonya Dupre (Randy) of San Angelo & Misti Buchannan (Michael) of Clyde, Daughter-in-law, Christy Harris of San Antonio, Sister-in-laws Pam Harris & Evelyn Harris. 11 grandchildren- Becca, Trent, Jenny Beth, Tori, AJ, Cassidy, Hannah, Lainey, Addison, Ella, & Coby. 2 Great-Grandchildren Case and Jett.
Services will be held at Second Chance Cowboy Church Friday, Sept 19th at 10:00 AM followed by his final ride down Hwy 36 to the graveside service at Cross Plains Cemetery. Terry Simmons will officiate the service & Nieces and Nephews will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 at Higginbotham’s Funeral home in Cross Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Chance Cowboy Church 9005 St Hwy 36 W Clyde, TX 79510.
