Vera Joyce Lovell

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother and memaw, Vera Joyce Lovell, who took her final breaths surrounded by her loving family on June 29, 2026, at the age of 77.

Joyce was born to LB and Florence Boyd Howard February 20, 1949. She graduated from Baird High School where she met her soulmate and high school sweetheart, Eric Lovell. She often spoke about the time she sat next to Eric on the bus in the 7th grade after a band event and she went home and told her mother she sat next to the man she was going to marry. And that she did. Eric and Joyce married a month after Joyce graduated from high school on June 3, 1967. Eric and Joyce were married for 41 years, before his passing in 2008.

Joyce was a loving wife, mother and above all she cherished being a grandmother. She loved Jesus and served others faithfully as a pastor’s wife for over 40 years. She was someone you could count on to love you where you were at, any place in your life. Joyce’s greatest joys were spending time with her family, making music with her sisters and cousins, and watching girls college basketball. She was a state-champion basketball player after all. She had a March Madness bracket that was envied by all.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Dana Perez of Georgetown, granddaughter, Liliana Perez of Georgetown, sister, Sue Reeves of Floydada, brothers-in law, Bernice Elliott of Ballinger, Al Lovell (wife, Phyllis) of Paint Rock, Bobby Lovell (wife, Gail) of Baird and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eric Lovell, parents, LB and Florence Howard, sister, Bobbie Elliott and in-laws, Albert and Dorothy Lovell.
