Virginia Childers

Virginia Belle Childers, 75, of Abilene, Texas died on March 12, 2018. She was born on May 19, 1942 to Samuel Sanford and Reba (Tennison) Lane. She was a 1960 graduate of Cross Plains High School and Wayland Baptist University in Plainview in 1987. Virginia spent 20 years working in Social Services and retired from Adult Protective Services for the State of Texas in 2011. Virginia enjoyed oil painting, sewing, quilting and gardening. She was a member of New Life Fellowship in Clyde, Texas. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Aubrey “Moose” on February 6, 2017; and sister, Wanda Heatherly.

Virginia is survived by sister Peggie Pecchioni and husband Louis of Abilene; niece, Debbie Smith and husband Steve of Abilene; nephew, Rick Waldraff and wife Kristy of Abilene; and four great nephews, Bryan Smith, Greg Smith, Brad Waldraff and Matthew Waldraff and wife Amanda; brother-in-law, Bill Heatherly; several cousins; and her beloved dachshund, Sally.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery.
