Virginia Pope

July 7, 1920 — March 23, 2017

Virginia Baird Pope, 96, of Cisco passed away peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2017 at home.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 25 at 2 PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home Cross Plains. Burial will follow at Cross Plains Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM.

Virginia was born on July 7, 1920 in Coleman County, TX to the late Charlie Baird and Nora Lowry Baird. She married Walter “Bill” Pope on June 15, 1940 in Alpine, TX. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage until Bills passing in 2006. Virginia was a devoted wife always by her husband providing a loving home and support for his endeavors.
She raised six sons with love and care. Provided 3 meals a day and pressed Levis for school each day. She worked with Little league baseball, Pony league and Senior league baseball for nearly 25 years in concession stand or driving children to games.
Her home was always open. Evangelist, visiting preachers, missionaries were provided room and board at the Popes. She never thought anything different was to be considered. Her Christian example was evident to all who knew her. Virginia loved to visit with people, never encountering a stranger.
Virginia loved her family and was always mindful of each one – children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren. Keeping up with each birthday and enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments.

Virginia is survived by her sons, Walter Pope and wife Beverly, Baylis Pope and wife Judy, Joe Pope and wife Joan, Donald Pope, Ronald Pope and wife Debbi; grandchildren, Billy, Roger, Stacy, Ginny, Aaron, Craig, Melissa, Jennifer, Jessica, Shai, Cory, Landon, Ethan, Mikaylee; great grandchildren, Sarah, William, Justin, Jordan, Emily, Reagan, Jonathan, Riley, Jaylee, Brook, Jackson, Cooper, Summer Lauren, Emma, Mason, Ian, Ava Marie, Jackson, Morgan, Aiden, Eli, Baylor, Haydan, Cameron, Cody, Rhionna, Layla, Rhyder, Emma, Sunnie; great-great grandchildren, Payton, Casen, Kaleigh, Paislee, Lincoln, Lexie, Sadie, Mykael and Jayden.

Virginia was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Pope and a grandson, Ronnie.
