MeIvis Burl (Zeke) Blackstock 86, of Cross Plains, was with family when he passed
away on Thursday September 21, 2023. He was born in Sweetwater, Texas, on
August 26, 1937, to Jessie Marie Brazil Blackstock and L.D. (Doc) Blackstock. Zeke
attended and graduated from Wink High School, in Wink Texas. After graduating,
he attended Cisco Junior College for a short time where he loved and played
football. After leaving college he held numerous oil field positions, then joined the
Plumbers and Pipefitter Local 654 union in Abilene, Texas where his brother
Roland, was the business manager. After several years in the union, he then
opened and operated his own plumbing business, known as B & B Plumbing, in
Abilene, Texas. He then retired at the age of 62.
Zeke married Janie on April 1, 1979, and they celebrated 44 years together. He
had a passion for raising and tending to game birds. Zeke never met a stranger and
became friends with many who shared in the passion for raising game birds. After
retirement from his plumbing business, he devoted his time to the care of his
birds and talking on the phone with as many friends as he could talk to in a day.
Zeke eventually had to give up his passion due to his health. Zeke loved all his
children, grandchildren and great grandchild and looked forward to each one
coming home to visit.
Zeke was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church, Rising Star, Texas, where he loved
everyone there and especially his dear friend and pastor Dwaine Clower. He loved
talking to Dwaine about football and loved going on car rides with him, and only
the Lord knows where they truly went on those car rides, but they always
returned in time to eat lunch with the Prayer Warrior ladies.
Zeke is survived by his wife Janie Blackstock of the home, son Larry Blackstock of
Huntsville, son Benji Blackstock and wife Mandy of McKinney, daughter Machielle
